Hilma af Klint was a visionary Swedish painter and spiritualist. Acknowledged as the first abstract artist, she privately began painting nonrepresentational works in 1906, years before her contemporaries Kandinsky, Mondrian, and Malevich. She allowed these pieces to only be seen 20 years after her death. Today she is being rediscovered through new exhibitions around the world. Our vase features Youth, from The Ten Largest (1907), a series illustrating the stages of life with vibrant orange and bold shapes.
